There was only one way to make Ohio territory safe for the settlers, and that was to defeat the Indians. In the early 1790’s, both General Harmar and General St. Clair’s troops had tried and tragically failed, and now fear was running rampant along the Ohio Territory frontier. This nightmare anxiety was bigger than life for twelve-year-old Daniel, who had lost his father in an Indian raid. Now, three years later, finding himself an unwanted burden to the family who had taken him in, a visit from a stranger leads Daniel to make a man-sized decision. Major General Anthony Wayne—Mad Anthony—hopes to succeed where the others had not, and to do this he has instituted a series of forts. It takes all Daniel’s courage to leave his foster family in hopes of getting work with one of the pack-horse brigades, the supply life-lines for the forts and for the U.S. troops defending the settlers. Hired by packer Josiah Gregg, Daniel is befriended by the chief’s fourteen-year-old son, Amos, and later, by the whole Gregg family. Despite his brave encounters with bears, ruffians, and the dangers faced daily by the supply train, Daniel’s fear still plagues him. Is he a coward? What will it take to have that question settled once and for all?

Much of the county lies under the iron rule of the Royal Forest laws, with all hunting reserved to the King. The penalty for killing a deer is mutilation or death, and these harsh laws are rigorously upheld by the King's foresters, notorious for their greed and corruption. In June 1195, a horse gallops into the sleepy village of Sigford, the broken shaft of an arrow protruding from its rider's back. The embroidered badge sewn on the dead man's tunic identifies him as a senior officer of the Royal Forest. With the victim's purse still full of money, the motive for murder is a mystery. But when a second forest officer is violently attacked, county coroner Sir John de Wolfe begins to uncover evidence of a sinister conspiracy.

More than nine out of every ten working women in India are employed in the informal economy, unprotected by labour laws and excluded from basic forms of social security. They work as daily labourers in the fields, small producers and industrial outworkers in their own homes and as vendors on the streets. These workers typically receive very low wages and experience extreme forms of social, economic and political marginalisation. This book examines what types of interventionscan improve the well-being of women working in the Indian informal economy. Using the case study of the Self Employed Women’s Association, Worker Identity, Agency and Economic Developmentargues that work-life reform for informal women workers has moral and social dimensions, as well as economic. Drawing on the work of social philosopher Axel Honneth, the bookargues that worker agency is critical to the process of work-life reform in the informal economy. Using empirical data collected amongst SEWA members the study shows that there is a positive and developmental relationship between a worker’s identity, or psychological integrity, and her actual capacity to engage in the political economy for constructive change. The study shows that membership based organisations can promote the social foundations of recognition and respect that are critical to identity and agency, as well as provide worker’s with real opportunities to develop alternative non-exploitative economic institutions that deliver improved wages and social security. But in organizing informal workers for collective action the existing distribution of power and wealth, as well as gender privilege are challenged. The result is social conflict and sometimes violence. Conflict of this nature is endemic to the development process, but is often overlooked in development literature and policy design. The book will be of interest to development scholars and practitioners, as well as those interested in the dynamics of women’s empowerment and socio-economic change for informal economy workers.

It did not take me long in the ministry to realize that People are not won to Christ by God patting them on the back of a skeptic hand or thick head containing a closed mind. God speaks through the broken heart of the bewildered mourner. He touches us where we are hurting. I felt a great need for some little book which could be given to those in need of comfort. There seemed to be nothing on the market to fill the need, so I wrote this. Over 4000 were printed and available on the open market. One lady wrote and said, "I am almost 94 and have always been afraid of death. My son Roger gave me your book, it has given me great comfort. Please come and visit me and bring some books for my friends." Four years later she went to with Lord in peace, not fear.
