The heart is the most symbolic organ of the human body. Across cultures it is seen as the site of emotions, as well as the origin of life. We feel emotions in the heart, from the heart-stopping sensation of romantic love to the crushing sensation of despair. And yet since the nineteenth century the heart has been redefined in medical terms as a pump, an organ responsible for the circulation of the blood. Emotions have been removed from the heart as an active site of influence and towards the brain. It is the brain that is the organ most commonly associated with emotion in the modern West. So why, then, do the emotional meanings of the heart linger? Why do many transplantation patients believe that the heart, for instance, can transmit memories and emotions and why do we still refer to emotions as 'heartfelt'? We cannot answer these questions without reference to the history of the heart as both physical organ and emotional symbol. Matters of the Heart traces the ways emotions have been understood between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries as both physical entities and spiritual experiences. With reference to historical interpretations of such key concepts as gender, emotion, subjectivity and the self, it also addresses the shifting relationship from heart to brain as competing centres of emotion in the West..

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) has a way of stopping everyone in its tracks. That is what it did to Sandra Kay when she first met Chloe – who became the inspiration for this book of incredible stories. "Matters of the Heart – Volume 1" is filled with big stories about some of the littlest heroes. Accompanied by a photo, each child's tale is lovingly told by the parents who know the stories best. Combined with a helpful glossary of terms and a list of resources, the stories in "Matters of the Heart – Volume 1," are not only tales of what has been, but also tales of what can be. Yes, many of them hold sorrow, but all of them hold the promise of new things to come. Much like a broken heart which becomes stronger as it heals, the healing power of the stories shared within can only make us all stronger, as well.

A classic love story about manners, men and modern romance retold by bestselling Australian author, Fiona Palmer Western Australia, 2019: The Bennets are a farming family struggling to make ends meet. Lizzy, passionate about working the land, is determined to save the farm. Spirited and independent, she has little patience for her mother's focus on finding a suitable man for each of her five daughters. When the dashing Charles Bingley, looking to expand his farm holdings, buys the neighbouring property of Netherfield Park, Mrs Bennet and the entire district of Coodardy are atwitter with gossip and speculation. Will he attend the local dance and is he single? These questions are soon answered when he and Lizzy's sister Jane form an instant connection on the night. But it is Charlie's best friend, farming magnate Will Darcy, who leaves a lasting impression when he slights Lizzy, setting her against him. Can Lizzy and Will put judgements and pride aside to each see the other for who they really are? Or in an age where appearance and social media rule, will prejudice prevail? Australia's bestselling storyteller Fiona Palmer reimagines Jane Austen's beloved classic tale of manners and marriage, transporting an enduring love story in this very twenty-first century novel about family, female empowerment and matters of the heart.

Our feelings and emotions are indicators that let us know the condition of our heart. Many people, however, run from their feelings and would rather hide their emotions failing to realize God gives us feelings and even He feels. Like anything God has given us it can be used out of context, out of order, and out of line with what He desires for our lives and all this leads to is confusion and frustration. However, if we can learn how to use what God has given us, like our emotions, in line with His will and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can truly experience power, freedom, and emotional stability. So, how do we clearly hear the signals our heart is sending us so we can respond in a healthy way that brings growth and maturity? Well, that's what this entire series is all about. If there is a book in the Bible that is going to guide and help us on this journey, it is the book of Psalms. The Psalms uses poetry and songs to express a vast range of emotions and feelings from anger to joy, anxiety to desire, guilt to gratefulness, and despair to insecurity. We're going to discuss all these emotions and more by studying the Psalms to become the emotionally healthy women God is calling us to be. If you're tired of being pushed around by your feelings, bullied by your emotions, and confused by your heart; then this is the Bible study for you.
