"You couldn't make it through all 24 hours of my best day." There are a few different medical names for what he's got, but everybody that has it knows it as the Suicide Disease. When I first met him, he was running out of reasons to call it anything else. For the next seven months, we talked, and wrote this. Rodney seemed to have everything: he had been a Navy SEAL; he had a six figure job as the General Manager of a prestigious restaurant; and he had Jenn, his beautiful fiance. Little did he know that one fall, one simple fall, would change his entire life. Everything good was about to disappear. This is the real life story of a remarkable man who suffers daily with the unbearable pain of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Meet Rodney Mann."

Medieval society created many kinds of records and written material which differ considerably, giving us such sources as last wills, sermons, manorial accounts, or royal biographies. Primary sources are an exciting way for students to engage with the past and draw their own ideas about life in the medieval period. Understanding Medieval Primary Sources is a collection of essays that will introduce students to the key primary sources that are essential to studying medieval Europe. The sources are divided into two categories: the first part treats some of the many generic sources that have been preserved, such as wills, letters, royal and secular narratives and sermons. Chapter by chapter each expert author illustrates how they can be used to reveal details about medieval history. The second part focuses on areas of historical research that can only be fully discovered by using a combination of primary sources, covering fields such as maritime history, urban history, women’s history and medical history. Understanding Medieval Primary Sources will be an invaluable resource for any student embarking on medieval historical research.

On a distant planet far off into the future, there is a human colony twice removed from Earth with a country preparing for war. Sabienn Feel is a military cadet being fast-tracked for promotion as their enigmatic head of state, The Great Leader, readies his armies for battle.Sabienn's world comes crashing down when one day he grows wings. And now people are trying to kill him. He also finds out that not only him but thousands of men his age have grown wings around the world in keeping with a ten thousand year old prophecy. With his wings comes an intuitive ability to pick up an object and see a history of someone who held it. This ability has not gone unnoticed by higher powers within the realm. But what is it that The Great Leader wants of him? Will The Great Leader save him?"When The Stone Shepherds Awaken" is the first of twelve books in "The Sabienn Feel Adventures".Interview with the AuthorQ - What inspired you to write The Sabienn Feel Adventures?A - I've always loved the idea of the epic journey. I'm acquainted with the book Journey to the West but was more familiar with the TV series in the 80's based on the book called Monkey. The idea of four souls travelling across a wide expanse of geography to complete a quest appealed to me. So I planned a series of twelve books to go from one place in the south of this space colony that they live on twice removed from Earth, to end up in the north, meeting danger at every turn. Q - Why does your main character Sabienn Feel grow wings?A - Good question. I wanted something drastic to occur to these people physically. Something that would be difficult to hide and offer an immediate prejudice. The idea of growing wings constantly came up for me. There's a Pearl Jam song I found inspiring that says, "And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky. A human being that was given to fly". And in my mind's eye, I could see this figure. Almost like the Led Zeppelin Icarus logo but with bat wings. But they couldn't fly otherwise they'd hit the sky and the journey would be over in no time. I made them only able to swim because being submerged in water has elements of dealing with the subconscious. To me it satisfies all elements of those prophecy, fantasy, epic adventure type of stories that involve friendship and brotherhood. Q - So, why should readers give these books a try?A - Well I would say they were humour-filled, page-turning, epic, fantasy adventure novels which involve a quest. But I'll just say, just check them out.

The home of Roland Clewe, a small house plainly furnished, but good enough for a bachelor's quarters, stood not half a mile from the station, and near it were the extensive buildings which he called his Works. Here were laboratories, large machine-shops in which many men were busy at all sorts of strange contrivances in metal and other materials; and besides other small edifices there was a great round towerlike structure, with smooth iron walls thirty feet high and without windows, and which was lighted and ventilated from the top. This was Clewe's special workshop; and besides old Samuel Block and such workmen as were absolutely necessary and could be trusted, few people ever entered it but himself. The industries in the various buildings were diverse, some of them having no apparent relation to the others. Each of them was expected to turn out something which would revolutionize something or other in this world, but it was to his lens-house that Roland Clewe gave, in these days, his special attention. Here a great enterprise was soon to begin, more important in his eyes than anything else which had engaged human endeavor. . . .

"Monster" is a unique and deeply moving meditation on disability, medicine and caregiving. In this collection of linked essays and poems Jeneva Burroughs Stone reflects on hubris; scientific advances and their significance to humanity; and the responsibility of a creator to her creation. "Jeneva Burroughs Stone's "Monster" does what seems impossible -- weaves together the threads of creating and caring for a child with significant disabilities with those of poetry, intricate intellectual observation and, above all, love and wonder for what is wrought." --Elizabeth Aquino, Hope for a Sea Change (2014)

This Work "Primary Sources for History of the Sri Lankan Tamils : A World-wide Search", the First of its kind, is a very significant one. In this work I see the Historian and the Professional Librarian within the Author Dr. M. Gunasingam a student of Prof. K. Indrapala blend with each other in a very charming way. The author has documented the resources in the various major libraries of the world and those resource centres which possess valuable data relating to the history and culture of the Sri Lankan Tamils. The material is presented in an introductory manner as a historian would do. One cannot fail to notice the specific references the author chooses to give about each of the libraries and centres. In that sense it also becomes a guide. One cannot fail to observe the sense of socio political dedication of the author to the basic theme of the book. This work reveals the depth of the author's conviction and the breadth of the areas of search. I am sure this work will receive the attention of scholars and students researching into not only the Sri Lankan Tamils but also into Sri Lanka as a whole.

The Homecoming Every morning for the past year, she'd got out of bed, glanced through her window at the Los Angeles skyline and told her self she was the luckiest woman on earth. Very few people wake up on a morning with a smile and think, Great, another day at work, but she was one of the chosen few. Every morning, she thanked god for this wonderful gift he had bestowed on her. She wasn't sure when she first wanted this job, but it probably had something to do with the rebellious spell she went through in her teenage years. Being born into one of the wealthiest families in the USA, had many advantages. True, she'd wanted for nothing as a child. She had gifts aplenty, a dog, a pony, trips to Europe, every childish whim she had was granted. But somehow it wasn't enough. By the time she was in her mid-teens she'd had a revelation. For the first time, she started to take stock of her life and realized that most people don't get everything they want. They have to struggle for it. This gives them toughness, a worldliness and wisdom that she didn't possess. No amount of schooling, however expensive, could compensate for this. Consequently, her parents started to call her 'difficult' and even took her to a child psychologist on one occasion. Not that it did any good, not at first glance anyway. She'd got back from therapy, stormed into her room and called her friend. It was time to start living. That's when she met Mary. Download your copy today! While preparing to carve an unusual sculpture from a stump in his front yard, a professor of physics is interrupted by two first-year students at the university where he teaches. When the students ask him about his project, the professor describes the future sculpture as a three-dimensional representation of the way a sample of each chemical element reacts when high pressure is applied to it. That is not at all what the students were expecting to hear. They somewhat reluctantly agree to sign up for a consultation hour with the professor so that he can explain the concept in greater detail. When the professor describes his research in the area of high-pressure solid-state-physics as “modern alchemy”, the students are hooked! One of them has been contemplating a career in science or technology, the other is planning to concentrate on liberal arts and philosophy. This appears to be a unique opportunity that offers something for each of them and a chance to expand their common knowledge and friendship. The professor and the students review the history of medieval alchemy as the basis for modern science. They compare the challenges faced by the ancient philosophers to the obstacles of modern scientists. He introduces the students to his version of a modern alchemist's “philosopher's stone”, a device with which he is able to change the properties of the elements and make them take on different character. He leads this students on exploratory “journeys” across the Periodic Table of the Elements. They compare the different behavior and discover new relationships. The students converse about the “mystical” modern ideas that the professor introduces along the way; e.g., quantum chemistry and physics. He never resorts to formal, mathematical theory in their circumnavigation of the “world of high pressure”. In the end, the students feel “enlightened” in the true alchemical sense, ready for their own journey into the modern world of science and philosophy.
