Interrupting the ordered routine of the Mecosta County Amish settlement, an angelic visitor awakens Judith to a new faith. All Judith Fischer ever wanted is to marry within her community and raise a family. She longs for the day when her parents will allow Levi Plank to officially court her. But on the day Judith suspects Levi will ask her parent's permission, her younger brother Samuel has an accident under her charge. Rushing to Samuel's aid, Judith spies a strange man helping him; a man she later believes was an angel. When she shares her conviction with her family and close friends, she is shocked to find that no one believes her, including Levi. In the days following the accident, the angel visits Judith with information that may guide her down the path of faith, should she choose to follow. As her community slowly distances themselves, only one person is willing to stand up for her?the bishop's son, Andrew Lapp. But can he convince the settlement to listen to her? With a show of faith that flies in the face of her conservative upbringing, can Judith hold strong to the promise that there are even greater things in store for those who believe in God's miracles?

The Angels Book of Promises is an easy to follow handbook for all those aspiring to establish a relationship with angels. It contains chapters on Angel Meditations, Scrying techniques, Rituals and Hand movements, and approaches the subject in a completely different way. Working on the premise that one good turn deserves another, the Angels Book of Promises is an extremely effective bargaining tool. On one page, the aspirant writes exactly what he or she wants from their guiding angels, and on the opposite page what they are willing to do in return. Once the book has been ritualistically programmed, it should then be wrapped in black silk or velvet and not seen or touched by anyone else but the user. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The book also contains anecdotal accounts of angels by other people and includes detailed information of how angels infiltrate our lives without us even knowing. It also looks at the Angel of the Thames, witnessed by thousands of people since the seventeenth century and continues to appear to tourists today.

The Topos Of Divine Testimony In Luke Acts

In this study James McConnell addresses the concept of authoritative testimony in Luke-Acts. Specifically, he argues that particular elements in the narrative of Luke-Acts can be understood as instances of the topos of divine testimony through utterances and deeds, considered in some ancient rhetorical handbooks to be the most authoritative form of testimony when seeking to persuade an audience. McConnell claims the gods' testimony was used in ancient law courts and political speeches to persuade a judge of a defendant's guilt or innocence, and in attempts in public forums to convince others of a particular course of action. Similarly, the topos is used in ancient narratives and biographies to legitimate certain characters and discredit others. The instances of the topos of God's speech (both oral and through OT citations) and deeds in Luke-Acts are functioning in the same way.

Rising out of the sea on a rocky isle off the coast of France, the church and abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel have withstood the harsh northern weather - and withheld its darkest medieval mysteries - for one thousand years. Until now. Now a young, brilliant archeologist, Johanna, responding to the cryptic utterance of a headless monk that has haunted her dreams since childhood - "To enter heaven one must dig into the earth" - has begun to uncover and explore secrets that have long lain buried at the sacred site. For not even ten centuries have been able to obliterate completely the brutal treachery of the Benedictine monk Brother Almodius or the misfortunes of the tender-hearted Brother Roman in his forbidden love for a Celtic girl, Moira, who experienced ritualistic torture by the elements of earth, air, fire, and water. In ancient ritual, in foreboding visions, in an expedition at once metaphysical and archeological, Johanna ardently researches the past only to discover that its bizarre, murderous history has begun to be repeated in the present. Reality becomes an elusive, dangerous place, and it leaves Johanna with no one she can fully trust: from her married lover, Francois, who is also the Minister of Cultural Monuments; to Simon, the cosmopolitan antique dealer whose family is strangely connected to the abbey; to Guillaume, whose passion for Johanna's work comes not unalloyed; to the jealous archeologist - and devious saboteur - Patrick Fenoy. Her science increasingly challenged by inexplicable mysteries, in the embrace of peril Johanna treads the ancient stones and arcana in the depths of the Romanesque abbey at Mont-Saint-Michel as this thriller unfolds.

Wrestling The Angel

In this first volume of his magisterial study of the foundations of Mormon thought and practice, Terryl L. Givens offers a sweeping account of Mormon belief from its founding to the present day. Situating the relatively new movement in the context of the Christian tradition, he reveals that Mormonism continues to change and grow. Givens shows that despite Mormonism's origins in a biblical culture strongly influenced by nineteenth-century Restorationist thought, which advocated a return to the Christianity of the early Church, the new movement diverges radically from the Christianity of the creeds. Mormonism proposes its own cosmology and metaphysics, in which human identity is rooted in a premortal world as eternal as God. Mormons view mortal life as an enlightening ascent rather than a catastrophic fall, and reject traditional Christian concepts of human depravity and destiny. Popular fascination with Mormonism's social innovations, such as polygamy and communalism, and its supernatural and esoteric elements-angels, gold plates, seer stones, a New World Garden of Eden, and sacred undergarments-have long overshadowed the fact that it is the most enduring and even thriving product of the nineteenth century's religious upheavals and innovations. Wrestling the Angel traces the essential contours of Mormon thought from the time of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young to the contemporary LDS church, illuminating both the seminal influence of the founding generation of Mormon thinkers and the significant developments in the church over almost 200 years. The most comprehensive account of the development of Mormon thought ever written, Wrestling the Angel will be essential reading for anyone seeking to understand the Mormon faith.

Businessman George Richards lives in a gray world. The walls he hides behind in his office are gray. The carpeting is gray. His life is gray. But George hears angels-angels who call to him, sing to him. Angels who beg him to come to them, to help them. George's wife, Elaine, believes that George is suffering a nervous breakdown and he is committed to a mental institution. When he is allowed to return home, George falls back into his old life, his old habits. And the voices return, too. This time, George is unable to resist their call... On this irresistible night, the voices call George to the sea. He follows and climbs aboard a small boat, which he rows out to the middle of the ocean. The angels tell George to jump. And he does... George and the Angels is the story of a solitary man, caught in an existence without apparent meaning, who is suddenly thrust into a world of inexplicable events and inescapable dangers. It is the story of a man coming to grips with his own identity and place in this universe. George and the Angels challenges our concepts of what is real and what is not and what one man can do to shape his destiny.
